Handmade in the Dominican Republic by skilled artisans, each piece celebrates cultural memory while embracing contemporary artistry. Our designs are made to foster connection, community, and a living sense of place.

Caribbean Consciousness means expressing gratitude and showing respect for the history that our lands, seas and forests carry. Keeping alive the essence of our ancestors and weaving them into our contemporary world.

 

Our Materials

  • Cactus bio-leather

    Cactus leather is a partial plant-based alternative to animal hide made primarily from the nopal (prickly pear) cactus. Developed in Mexico by Desserto, it is crafted by harvesting, drying, and processing cactus fibers combined with bio-resins and backing layers to create a soft, flexible material.

  • Waxed paper cellulose fleje

    Fleje is a flexible, resistant material historically used in the transport of goods and traditional crafts, such as baskets and outdoor furniture. Its fiber is made from paper cellulose and has a wax finish that adds durability while preserving a tactile, organic feel.

  • Palm tree cana fiber

    Crystal beads are used for their luminosity, color, and reflective quality. Each bead catches and transforms light, adding depth and movement to the piece. Their subtle variations create a tactile, jewel-like finish that complements the natural materials and handcrafted elements of the collection.

  • Amber & Larimar

    Amber and larimar are natural stones deeply connected to the Dominican landscape. Amber, fossilized tree resin formed over millions of years, preserves traces of the island’s ancient forests. Larimar, a rare blue stone found only in the Dominican Republic, reflects the colors of the Caribbean sea and sky.

Our Artisans

  • Yolanda Mojica is an artisan and entrepreneur from La Romana, Dominican Republic, whose practice transforms recycled materials into functional and decorative objects. Self-taught from a young age, she developed her craft through traditional techniques and a deep knowledge of working with recycled materials.

    She hand-weaves our Kánoa Bags using fleje, a recycled paper strapping material, bringing her expertise in weaving and sustainable craft to each piece.

  • Martha Valera is a Dominican artisan from Palenque, San Cristóbal, whose practice is rooted in generational craftsmanship and Caribbean heritage. She learned the art of weaving from her grandmother, who passed the craft down through her family.

    Martha hand-weaves our Ôni Bags using cana fiber, a natural material derived from the palm tree. Each piece carries forward her family’s weaving tradition and the knowledge of Dominican craftsmanship.

  • Catherine Dipré was born in Yagua, San Cristóbal. She studied Advertising before beginning her journey in fashion in 2008. While completing a technical course in pattern-making, she began creating samples and eventually established her first workshop in the garage of her home.

    Today, Cathy brings her technical expertise and knowledge of construction to the Inarú Mini Bag, crafting each piece by hand in San Cristóbal.
